So That
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (New International Version) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
So That
I have been asked by people in the past "How do you read the bible and always manage to find something that I missed?" Well, I'm going to give away one of the trade secrets here... I am slow reader. Which always hurt me when I was in school, but as a pastor, it's been extraordinarily helpful. When you read the bible slowly, you will absolutely find things that fast readings will miss.
For instance, in our scripture today, we praise the Father of compassion and comfort...wait for it... so that... we can comfort others. Our experience of God's comfort and compassion are the antidote to a suffering world.
So don't forget, although God loves and cares for you, it's not all about you. God is sending you out to people and places that need to experience the same love and comfort you have experienced in Christ.
Slow down... so that... you don't miss the message behind the words on the page.
