Important Stuff
I attended the memorial service for a good friend, Wayne Gonzalez, yesterday. It was a bittersweet occasion, as are all memorials for me. I heard stories of his love toward others, his kind and generous spirit, and the impact that he had on this world (it was significant). We also mourned his death, his difficult fight with cancer, and we shared the sadness of a friend taken before we were ready.
The most profound moment for me came when one of his small group brothers shared his last request of him.
"I want you to speak when I'm gone, but I don't want you to tell them about our great friendship or any of that kind of stuff, I want you to speak the Gospel."
That's what was important to Wayne, that people knew where he found his life, his hope, and his saviour. There was lots of important stuff shared at his memorial, but he didn't want to miss his last chance to tell people about the most important stuff.
God so loved you, sacrificed himself for you, so that you can have eternal life.
